Reading I: Wisdom 12: 13, 16-19
Your might is the source of justice.
First Reading Background
- The lesson for God’s people in the reading from the Book of Wisdom is twofold.
- As God is merciful, so should the people be merciful to those who offend them.
- Because God is merciful, the people may live in hope that God will forgive their sins.
Reading II: Romans 8: 26-27
The Spirit helps us pray.
Second Reading Background
- Paul, in the Letter to the Romans, continues his proclamation of the power of God’s Spirit.
- It is God’s Spirit who understands and is divine Wisdom.
- That Spirit has been given to Christians that they might be children of God, like God.
Gospel: Matthew 13: 24-43
The Reign of God is among us.
Gospel Background
- The two parables of the weed seed planted among the crops, and the leaven in the woman’s bread, make the point that the kingdom of God may look small in Jesus’ ministry and preaching, but its growth will be rapid and thorough.
- The parable of the weeds in the wheat makes the point that good and bad cannot be separated without harming the good.
- God’s people must trust divine wisdom as they face the evil in the world.

Lectura Primera: Sabiduría 12: 13, 16-19
Tu fuerza es la fuente de justicia.
Primera lectura
- La lección de las personas de Dios en la lectura del Libro de la Sabiduría es doble.
- Al igual que Dios es misericordioso, las personas deberían ser misericordiosas con aquellos que los ofenden.
- Como Dios es misericordioso, las personas pueden vivir con la esperanza que Dios perdonará sus pecados.
Segunda lectura: Romanos 8: 26-27
El Espíritu nos ayuda a orar.
Segunda lectura
- Pablo, en la Carta a los Romanos, continúa su proclamación del poder del Espíritu de Dios.
- Es el Espíritu de Dios quien entiende y tiene sabiduría divina.
- Ese Espíritu se les ha dado a los cristianos para que sean hijos de Dios como Dios.
Evangelio: Mateo 13: 24-43
El reino de Dios está entre nosotros.

- Las dos parábolas de la semilla de hierba plantada entre los cultivos, y la levadura en el pan de la mujer, señalan el punto de que el reino de Dios puede verse pequeño en el ministerio y oración de Dios, pero su crecimiento será rápido y completo.
- La parábola de las hierbas en el trigo presenta el punto de que el bien y el mal no pueden separarse sin dañar al bien.
- Las personas de Dios deben confiar en la sabiduría divina cuando enfrenten al mal en el mundo.
