Reading I: Deuteronomy 11: 8, 26-28
Take these words of mind to heart.
First Reading Background
- God reminds the people that they have a choice.
- They may choose a blessing or a curse, either obeying the law or not.
- If we follow idols, we will not be blessed.
Reading II: Romans 3: 21-25, 28
We are justified by faith.
Second Reading Background
- Paul argues that merely following the law is never enough.
- We are, in fact, obliged to go further than the law and to also have faith.
- The faith in Christ which we have been given justifies us in God’s eyes.
Gospel: John 3: 16-18
Build your house on rock, not on sand.
Gospel Background
- Matthew reminds the people that it isn’t enough merely to say you believe.
- Anyone can do that. The Christian must also follow through and actually follow the will of God.
- Putting the teachings of Christ into practice is the demand of today’s reading.

Primera lectura
- Dios le recuerda a las personas que pueden elegir.
- Pueden elegir una bendición o una maldición ya sea que obedezcan la ley o no.
- Si seguimos a los ídolos, no seremos bendecidos.
Segunda lectura: Romanos 3: 21-25, 28
Somos justificados por medio de la fe.
Segunda lectura
- Pablo discute que apenas seguir la ley nunca es suficiente.
- Nosotros, de hecho, estamos obligados a ir más allá de la ley y también a tener fe.
- La fe en Cristo que se nos ha dado nos justifica ante los ojos de Dios.
Evangelio: Mateo 7: 21-27
Edifica tu casa sobre la roca, no sobre la arena.
