Reading I: Proverbs 31: 10-13, 19-20, 30-31
The wise woman receives her reward.
First Reading Background
- The poem of the first reading is the conclusion of the Book of Proverbs.
- It is very likely that the poem is about both a good wife and Wisdom herself.
- The whole poem highlights the point that whoever finds Wisdom does indeed find life.
Reading II: 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-6
You are children of the light.
Second Reading Background
- The Thessalonians were caught between worry over the imminent return of Christ and the complacency in their faith.
- Paul instructed them to be diligent in preparing, but not to worry.
- Christians are children of light.
Gospel: Matthew 25: 14-30
We must use the gifts we have been given!
Gospel Background
- The Gospel reading deals with the end of the world and the coming of God’s kingdom.
- The paradox of today’s parable is that the one who played it safe lost, while, in the end the risk-takers gained.
- Faithfulness implies not only keeping the tradition but also the willingness to risk everything in order to increase God’s kingdom.

Lectura Primera: Proverbios 31: 10-13, 19-20, 30-31
La mujer sabia recibe su recompensa.
Primera lectura
- El poema de la primera lectura es la conclusión del Libro de los Proverbios.
- Es muy posible que el poema sea sobre una buena esposa y la sabiduría.
- El poema entero realza el punto de que quien sea que encuentre la sabiduría encuentra la vida.
Segunda lectura: 1 Tesalonicenses 5: 1-6
Son hijos de la luz.
Segunda lectura
- Los tesalonicenses estaban entre la preocupación del inminente regreso de Cristo y la complacencia de su fe.
- Pablo los instruyó para que fueran diligentes al prepararse, pero sin preocuparse.
- Los cristianos son hijos de la luz.
Evangelio: Mateo 25: 14-30
¡Debemos usar los dones que se nos han dado!
Evangelio
- La lectura del Evangelio trata del fin del mundo y la llegada del reino de Dios.
- La paradoja de la parábola de hoy es que perdió aquél que estaba seguro y ganó el que al final se arriesgó.
- La fidelidad implica no sólo conservar la tradición sino también desear arriesgar todo para poder incrementar el reino de Dios.
