Activities of the Week
Solemnity of Pentecost - Week of May 11, 2008
Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
- On Pentecost, God poured out upon the world the gift of the Holy Spirit. Gather your family outdoors and point out the force of the wind. Discuss with your family how the Holy Spirit is like a mighty wind. Talk about how the gift of God’s Spirit strengthens your family. End your gathering with a family hug.
- Write each of the names of the fruits of the Holy Spirit on a slip of paper (charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity), and place the papers in a bowl. Each morning this week have the members of the family choose a slip out of the box and make an effort to carry out that behavior throughout the day. In the evening have members return the slip to the bowl, evaluating how they did during the day.
- Have a family affirmation time. Each member tells how he or she has seen the power of the Spirit working through another family member, bringing God’s love and forgiveness.
- The Feast of Pentecost is actually the birthday of the Church. Celebrate this feast with a birthday cake for the Church. Place seven candles on the cake to represent the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. After you light the candles, pray the following Prayer Litany: Response: We thank you, Holy Spirit. Leader: For the gift of loveý. For the gift of peaceý. For the gift of wisdom ý. For the gift of understandingý. For the gift of strengthý. For the gift of knowing the Lordý. For the gift of our familyý. Amen.

Solemnidad de Pentecostés - Semana del 11 de mayo de 2008
Elijan una de las siguientes actividades como una forma de reflexión sobre las lecturas del domingo:
- En Pentecostés, Dios vertió sobre el mundo el don del Espíritu Santo. Reúne a tu familia al aire libre y señala la fuerza del viento. Comenten como el Espíritu Santo es como el viento. Hablen sobre como el don del Espíritu de Dios fortalece a su familia. Terminen su reunión con un abrazo familiar.
- Escriban cada uno de los nombres de los frutos del Espíritu Santo en una tira de papel (caridad, gozo, paz, paciencia, amabilidad, bondad, generosidad, gentileza, fidelidad, modestia, autocontrol, castidad), y coloque los papeles en un tazón. Cada mañana esta semana, pidan a los miembros de la familia que saquen una tira y hagan un esfuerzo por seguir el comportamiento durante el día. En la noche pidan a los miembros de la familia que devuelvan la tira al tazón, evaluando cómo les fue durante el día.
- Tengan un tiempo de afirmación familiar. Cada miembro dice cómo ha visto trabajar el poder del Espíritu sobre otro miembro de la familia, trayendo el amor y el perdón de Dios.
- La celebración de Pentecostés es de hecho el nacimiento de la Iglesia. Celebren esta festividad con un pastel de cumpleaños para la Iglesia. Coloquen siete velas en el pastel para representar los siete dones del Espíritu Santo. Después de que enciendan las velas, recen la siguiente letanía: Todos: Te damos gracias, Espíritu Santo. Líder: Por el don del amor.... Por el don de la paz.... Por el don de la sabiduría... Por el don del entendimiento... Por el don de la fortaleza... Por el don del conocimiento del Señor... Por el don de nuestra familia... Amén.
