Reading I: Acts 8: 5-8, 14-17
Christ died for sins once for all.
First Reading Background
- In today's first reading, we discover how people come to hear and believe in Jesus.
- The people in Samaria believed in Jesus and were baptized.
- Peter and John came from Jerusalem to pray over the Samaritans and lay their hands on them; a prayerful gesture of intercession and blessing that is still part of the Church's sacramental rituals.
Reading II: 1 Peter 3: 15-18
Christ died for sins once for all.
Second Reading Background
- Today's second reading, from the First Letter of Peter, speaks of how Christians are to live.
- The passage ends with a reference to the Resurrection.
- The risen Christ lives a new and glorious life that we who have been baptized in his name and sealed with the gift of the Spirit will also receive.
Gospel: John 14: 15-21
If you love me, obey my commandments.
Gospel Background
- Today's Gospel is taken from Jesus' farewell address to his disciples.
- The author of today's Gospel emphasizes the union of Jesus with the Father and with believers.
- In Jesus, believers also stand in relationship with the Father. This relationship is made possible and real through the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Lectura Primera: Hechos 8: 5-8, 14-17
Oraron para que recibieran al Espíritu Santo.
Primera lectura
- En la primera lectura de hoy, descubrimos cómo las personas vienen a escuchar y creer en Jesús.
- Las personas en Samaria creyeron en Jesús y fueron bautizadas.
- Pedro y Juan vinieron de Jerusalén a rezar por los samaritanos poniendo las manos sobre ellos; un gesto en oración lleno de intercesión y
Segunda lectura: 1 Pedro 3: 15-18
Cristo murió por los pecados una sola vez.
Segunda lectura
- La segunda lectura de hoy, de la Primera Carta de Pedro, habla de cómo vivirán los cristianos.
- El pasaje termina con una referencia a la resurrección.
- El Cristo resucitado vive una vida nueva y gloriosa que los que hemos sido bautizados en su nombre y sellados con la gracia del Espíritu recibiremos también.
Evangelio: Juan 14: 15-21

- El Evangelio de hoy fue tomado de la despedida que dirigió Jesús a sus discípulos.
- El autor del Evangelio de hoy enfatiza la unión de Jesús con el Padre y los creyentes.
- En Jesús, los creyentes también tienen una relación con el Padre. Esta relación se hace posible y real mediante la gracia del Espíritu Santo.
